Photo highlights from the Ninja A-League Round 12 clash between the Wellington Phoenix FC and Newcastle Jets which was played at Porirua Park on a sweltering Wellington summer's day.
The Newcastle Jets came flying out of the blocks scoring after just three minutes through Sheridan Gallagher who fired a powerful strike into the roof of the net. Gallagher then doubled the Jets lead just before half time racing through to calmly slot the ball past the Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper.
After the break however it was a different story after Paul Temple’s side seemed to have been rallied in the dressing room and came out firing and it wasn't long before the results paid off after substitute Manaia Elliott made an instant impact and pulled a goal back when she headed in a cross from Annalie Longo after just five minutes. Shortly after Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Danielle Krzyzaniak spilled the ball, allowing captain Annalie Longo to seize on the loose ball and fire home from close range.
After the equaliser the Phoenix had several opportunities but couldn't take the lead but with just seconds left on the clock up stepped super sub Manaia Elliott to deliver a superb cross which with the Wellington wind eluded everyone in the box to sail in the net to spark wild celebrations for the Phoenix and their fans to send the nix into fourth.
